Family Violence in Canada: A Statistical Profile 1998, Statistics Canada, Catalogue no. 85-224-XPE

  • Incident based Uniform Crime Reporting Survey: Data based on crimes reported by 154 police departments in 1996. The data are not nationally representative. Currently there is an urban bias and a large majority of the incidents come from Ontario and Quebec.
  • Homicide Survey collected from police-reported data, nationally
  • Violence Against Women Survey: Statistics Canada's 1993 survey on Violence Against Women. Random telephone calls to 12,300 women in ten provinces to talk about their experiences of sexual and physical violence by strangers, dates/boyfriends, acquaintances and partners. National estimates are within 1.2% of the true population at the 95% confidence interval.
  • Transition Home Survey: A series of statistical surveys of transition house from 1991 through 1995.
