The Shelter's Family Violence Helpline is often the first line of support for women and children in danger.  Professionally trained counsellors are available 24 hours per day, 365 days a year, to provide counselling, information and appropriate referrals in 14 different languages.

Please call us if you are in crisis, or if you need information or support because you are living with domestic violence. Research shows the earlier a woman calls for assistance, the better chance she has of successfully escaping a violent situation.  Don't wait until you are in desperate need and in lethal crisis.

The Helpline supports women and children, youth and men who are struggling to overcome the risks and realities of family violence.  If you believe a friend, family member or someone you know may be experiencing family violence, our team would welcome the opportunity to provide information about how you might provide information and support.

In 2007-2008, the Family Violence Helpline answered nearly 7,800 calls, and helped connect clients with safe housing, crisis support, safety planning, counselling, information, advocacy, and support services as required.

Last year, the Helpline received 2,600 requests for space at the Shelter, and accepted 366.  But, even if the Shelter is full at the time someone calls, we never leave anyone in danger.  We work with other shelters and community resources to see that a caller is transported to safety and will help her make plans from a safe place.
