Inaugural Turning Points Non-Gala a Success

Thanks to the efforts of an energetic and talented volunteer organizing committee, this year’s Inaugural Turning Points Non-Gala not only sold out months ahead of time, it raised an impressive $450,000 by inviting Calgarians to focus on the women and children, men and youth in their journeys towards a life free of family violence. (See list of Turning Points supporters on page 6.)

Instead of taking items home at the end of the evening, everything – including the table centre pieces of essential items for clients like groceries, toiletries and slippers – went back for the use of clients of the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter. The live auction included sponsoring the heating bill at the Shelter for a year, covering some of the costs of the high school-based Healthy Relationships program, and building an observatory for women to enhance their parenting skills to help their children through the trauma of family violence.
