[Buy tickets and event information here.] Turning Points is the not-to-be missed event on Calgarians’ calendar, sold out months in advance.
The 2010 Turning Points features co-author, Sheryl WuDunn, who has written a book -- Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide -- that made most Top 10 book lists for 2009. This is a book with hopeful, life changing stories. If the women in this book don’t inspire you, then nothing will.
Sheryl WuDunn is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, along with husband, Nicholas Kristoff. They are considered North America’s strongest moral voices.
Ms. WuDunn said, “I’m excited about coming to Calgary and Turning Points to share important and inspiring stories from Half the Sky. The Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter also offers hope for women and children, youth and men who have the courage to change their lives. I hope Calgarians will come to Turning Points and join us in taking a stand against family violence.”
Since publication in September 2009, Half the Sky has turned readers into a movement. Reviewers, bloggers and book clubs are not just recommending the book, they are taking action and finding ways to make a difference.
Why is this book so different?
The stories in Half the Sky inspire with the courage and resilience of women and girls around the world. At the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter, we support people every day who inspire us with their courage and resilience. We are seeing the issue of family violence becoming a movement in our community.
Calgarians can take a stand against family violence by taking part in the 2010 Turning Points on Thursday, May 6, 2010, at the Westin Hotel at 6 pm. Join us, join Sheryl WuDunn and join the many Calgarians who also believe we can all make a difference.
