Make your vote count against domestic violence on Oct 18
Published: Sep 10, 2010
Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter asks Calgarians to make their vote count against domestic violence this October 18th. Joining with members of the Calgary Domestic Violence Committee (CDVC), we are asking mayoralty candidates to tell us their platform for ending domestic violence, recognizing that this is the single most serious and most prevalent criminal and social issue in Calgary.
Voters and candidates can go to www.voteagainstviolence.com to learn about the campaign, read a backgrounder about the issue of domestic violence and see the survey that candidates are being asked to complete. CDVC members will be publishing the survey responses. Candidates have been invited to visit with domestic violence agencies to learn more about the issue and what the City can do to take a leadership role in ending domestic violence. Everyone can show support by visiting the Facebook campaign here.
The more Calgarians join us to ask these questions of Calgary's next mayor, the sooner we'll build a healthier community free from domestic violence.
