Family violence is the single greatest social and criminal issue facing Calgary. Between 2002-2007 one quarter of homicides were the result of domestic violence. The Calgary Police spend more time responding to the 12,000 calls about family violence than to any other crime.
Canada as a whole spends billions of dollars in lost wages, healthcare and other social costs as a result of family violence each year. Every dollar donated to a family violence charity results in many times that of savings to our country as a whole.
