Women and children who leave the shelter are offered longer-term support from our Community Outreach Program. An Outreach Service Counsellor ensures they have the support they need to integrate into the community and continue along their journeys towards lives free of violence.
The Community Outreach Program continues to build the confidence, knowledge, empowerment and skills of women through continued counselling and by connecting women with community resources and assisting them in building informal support networks.
In 2008, Outreach and Follow-up Services helped about 1000 women and children cope with family violence by providing counselling, support and information after their shelter stay.
Community Resource Counsellors provide FREE of charge:
- Emotional counselling without judging.
- Safety planning.
- Information and referrals.
- Parenting support
- Help with court and legal issues.
- Help finding a new home.
- Individual and group counselling.
- Limited essentials to get started if needed such as food and clothing.
- Help and support.
- Support to leave an abusive relationship.
- Support to get safer while in an abusive relationship.
