About Us
Thirty-five years and 100,000 lives changed. Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter was the first shelter in Western Canada for women fleeing family violence and abuse.
As the need for help in our community has grown, so has Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter. We are now one of the largest organizations in Canada for women, children, youth and men hurt by family violence.
Though our Emergency Shelter remains the cornerstone of our organization, it is now only one of many free programs we operate to stop family violence in our community. In addition to our Shelter, each year we serve over 12,000 women, children, youth and men through a number of innovative safety, healing and prevention programs.
Our innovative community collaborations, research and evaluation programs keep us connected and ensure our services and programs are operating efficiently. We regularly partner with academics and university to pioneer techniques that are at the forefront of the movement to stop family violence internationally.
We depend on the generosity of Calgarians to operate our services. Nearly 60 per cent of our funding comes from non-governmental sources. (Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter is a registered charity, Business Number: 129883443RR0001) Volunteers contribute over 7,000 hours each year providing a fantastic variety of services to our clients.
We welcome your questions and encourage you to get the support you need or to get involved with Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter.
